Having contributed a piece on ‘The Social Determinants of Covid-19 and BAME Disproportionality’ to our website, Professor Meer now turns to the issue of at least 57 countries – including the UK – turning away asylum seekers at their borders due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite clear WHO guidance on quarantining and screening asylum seekers at national borders, numerous countries are ignoring international asylum obligations, with some politicians going as far as blaming the spread of Covid-19 on refugees.
